3M Airstream PAPR systems are NIOSH approved for respiratory protection against specific airborne contaminants, such as dusts, mists, fumes, radionuclide, asbestos, and hydrogen fluoride.Suggested applications for the 3M Airstream PAPR include mining, chipping, grinding, grain handling, and agriculture.

How 3M Powered Air Respirators work: Ambient air is drawn in through the pre-filter, up the top of the headgear and passes through the filter cartridge. The filtered air then flows down into the face mask and over the user's face and exits at the edge of the face seal. The face seal, head seal and temple seals as well as positive airflow prevent the mixing of filtered air inside the visor with ambient air. Provided that it does not interfere with the face seal, limited facial hair will not adversely affect the level of protection. To ensure a proper fit, check out our Respirator Fit Test Kits.

Warning- 3M Airstream PAPR systems are NOT suitable protection for any of the following:

  • Gases and vapors other than hydrogen fluoride
  • Oxygen deficient environments
  • Contaminant concentration levels that exceed 25 times the PEL
  • Atmospheres with oil-based aerosols
