The term “Lockout/Tagout” refers to practices and procedures to prevent electrocution from unexpected start-up of machinery or equipment during service or maintenance. According to the Department of Labor, over 3 million workers are at risk of injury if proper lock out tag out procedures are not in place. OSHA requirements state that protective hardware such as locks, tags, chains, etc. will be provided by the employer for isolating or securing equipment from energy sources.
