DuPont™ Tychem® 2000 Tape. is a lightweight, and durable fabric, Tychem® 2000 fabric provides at least 30 minutes of protection against > 40 chemical challenges. Featuring tape elasticity that creates a tight adhesion, to prevent leaks. Tychem® 2000 is used for light splash protection in a variety of industrial environments, including petroleum refining, pulp and paper manufacturing, food processing, chemical processing, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

DuPont™ Tychem® 2000 Chemical Protective Tape Tychem® Tape is used to cover glove, zipper, boot and other interfaces; keeps your PPE in place while providing the same level of chemical resistance as our Tychem(R) 2000 garments.

SPECIFICATIONS

  • DuPont™ Tychem® 2000 Tape shall be constructed of 4 mils of polyethylene
  • DuPont™ Tychem® 2000 Tape shall be constructed of ~2 mils of adhesive.

  • The tape shall be ~2” wide.
  • The tape roll shall be 60 yd long.

Questions & Answers

How should Tychem® 2000 Tape be stored?

DuPont™ Tychem® 2000 Tape may be stored between 59°F (15°C) to 77°F (25°C) in the dark (cardboard box) with no UV light exposure. Product shall be transported and stored in its original packaging.

 

Is it possible to re-use Tychem® 2000 Tape?

DuPont does not recommend reusing Tychem® Tape. Tychem® Tape is for single use only but can be easily repositioned during application.

 

What is the shelf life of Tychem® 2000 Tape?

Tychem® Tape may be used for up to 3 years after the date of manufacture as long as all of the following conditions are met:

1. The tape has been stored properly (view storage conditions)
2. The tape has not been damaged, altered or contaminated
3. The tape passes a full visual inspection
4. The tape adhesiveness has been checked. If it is not sticking properly then do not use

 

In what ways can I dispose of Tychem® 2000 Tape?

If not contaminated, Tychem® 2000 Tape can be incinerated or buried in a controlled landfill without harming the environment.

Contaminated tape and garments that cannot be handled safely without protective equipment must be disposed of with other hazardous wastes, either through incineration or landfill per local regulations. Disposal of contaminated tapes and garments is regulated by national or local laws.

 

What is the ambient working temperature range for Tychem® 2000 Tape?

Tychem® garments and accessories can be worn in ambient temperatures of -13°F (-25°C) to 190°F (88°C).
In colder environments, Tychem® garments and accessories can become stiff. If cold enough, the fabric may even become brittle. Please be aware that the heat stress of the wearer becomes a greater concern in higher ambient temperatures. At higher temperatures, chemical hazards can become more aggressive. Breakthrough times and permeation rates may change at higher temperatures. The published permeation data per ASTM F739 is performed at ambient temperatures (approximately 72-81° F ; 22-27° C).

 

Is Tychem® 2000 Tape flame resistant or flame retardant (FR)?

Other than Tychem® 2000 SFR, Tychem® 6000 FR and Tychem® 10000 FR, all Tychem® chemical protective garments and accessories will ignite and continue to burn.

Wearing garments made of Nomex® or any other flame-resistant fabric under Tychem® garments, other than Tychem® 2000 SFR, Tychem® 6000 FR and Tychem® 10000 FR, will not reduce burn injury during a fire. Other than Tychem® 2000 SFR, Tychem® 6000 FR and Tychem® 10000 FR, Tychem® garments will burn and possibly melt when exposed to a fire; this may increase burn injuries even when worn over garments made of Nomex® or any other flame-resistant fabric.

Because Tychem® garments can melt, except for Tychem® 6000 FR and Tychem® 10000 FR, do not wear Tychem® garments under a garment made of Nomex® or any other flame resistant fabric if the potential for fire or electric arc flash exists.

Tychem® 2000 SFR garments provide only secondary flame-resistant protection and are engineered to be worn over your primary flame resistant / thermal protective garments to provide barrier protection from inorganic acids and bases, industrial cleaning chemicals, and particles while not contributing to burn injury in the event of a flash fire.

Tychem® 6000 FR garments are flame resistant. They are designed and tested to help reduce injury during escape from a flash fire and to provide some protection from electric arcs.

Tychem® 10000 FR (model RF 600T) garments are certified to meet the optional Flash Fire Escape performance requirements of NFPA 1991 (2016 edition).

Do not knowingly enter an environment in which the concentration of flammable gas is within flammable or explosive limits when wearing a Tychem® garment, including when wearing a Tychem® 2000 SFR, Tychem® 6000 FR and Tychem® 10000 FR garments. Retreat immediately if you encounter such an environment while wearing any Tychem® garment, including Tychem® 2000 SFR, Tychem® 6000 FR and Tychem® 10000 FR.

No Tychem® garment, including Tychem® 2000 SFR, Tychem® 6000 FR and Tychem(R) 10000 FR, is intended for fire-fighting activities, nor for protection from hot liquids, steam, welding, or thermal radiation. Only Tychem® 6000 FR fabric was tested to EN ISO 11612:2015 (Protective clothing – Clothing to product against heat and flame – Minimum performance requirements) and was rated as Class D1 for molten aluminum and Class E2 for molten iron.

 

Can adhesive chemical tape be used to seal chemical protective garments?

If properly done, taping of PPE interfaces may reduce bulk material flow, but cannot be relied on to provide a liquid-tight or vapor-tight seal. Additionally, during an emergency situation it may be difficult to carefully apply such tape. Therefore, taping is primarily viewed as a means to hold PPE items in place e.g. to hold a hood over a respirator face piece, a sleeve over a glove, a pant leg over a boot, or to keep a closure flap closed. Taping does not provide reliable liquid or gas barrier performance.
