The Amerex 16882 Class D Portable Extinguisher Model B570, 1 Each is a purpose-built, industrial-grade solution engineered to safely control and extinguish combustible metal fires. Filled with 30 lb of Amerex’s specialized sodium-chloride “Super-D” dry powder, the B570 forms a heat-insulating crust that excludes air and dissipates heat from burning metals, making it highly effective on magnesium, sodium, potassium and sodium-potassium alloys — and demonstrably capable against titanium, zirconium, uranium and powdered aluminum in appropriate scenarios. Built on a heavy-duty steel cylinder with a chrome-plated brass valve and either a hose-and-horn or wand applicator, this extinguisher provides a stable, non-dispersing discharge with an effective operating range of approximately 3–6 feet and a discharge duration near 24 seconds, allowing trained responders to apply agent from a safer distance. FM and UL approvals, combined with manufacturer technical guidance and an available SDS, support professional use in labs, manufacturing, metalworking, and specialty storage areas where Class D hazards exist.
